International Education Week (IEW) is a global, annual celebration held every year during the third week of November, highlighting the importance international education plays in building bridges among cultures and learning to succeed in a globalized world. Over 100 countries around the world celebrate IEW.
It was an amazing International Education Week at Golden Hills!
Schools participated by hosting food fairs where students chose their favourite recipes, made shopping lists and journeyed into Calgary to purchase items for their delectable delights. Then they used their culinary talents to chop, bake, boil and fry their way to food heaven.
There were student recognition assemblies, talent shows with acts performed by international students showcasing their dance moves ranging from traditional dances of their country to hip-hop, fashion shows allowing students to catch a glimpse of the beautiful traditional garments worn for celebration, and some brave international students made presentations to elementary classes with slides and question periods tying in the information from their respective countries to what the elementary students were learning in their social studies classes.
These events are only some of the ways we remind all of our students at Golden Hills that we are a welcoming place where students study together and embrace each other's differences to learn to live together and build a better world.
